Lippan Art: A Traditional Indian Art Form

Materials used: Craft Glue, MDF Board, Pencil, Outliners, Fevicol MR or Craft Glue, Diamond Mirror Pieces, Round Mirror Pieces, Other Mirrors, Acrylic Colour or Oil Colors, Chalk Powder, Varnish, and Stencils

  1. Start by drawing a rough sketch of the design you want to create on the MDF board using a pencil. It's essential to have a clear idea of the design beforehand to avoid mistakes while creating the final design.

  2. Once you have the sketch ready, use the outliners to trace the design on the board. Outliners are special tubes filled with paint that create thin lines or outlines on the surface. You can use different colors of outliners to create a vibrant and colorful design.

  3. After tracing the design with the outliners, let it dry for a few minutes.

  4. Now, take the Feviglue and apply a thin layer on the inside of the traced lines. Make sure to apply a thin layer only as too much glue can cause the design to look messy.

  5. Next, take the diamond and round mirror pieces and start sticking them on the glue-covered areas. You can use different shapes and sizes of mirror pieces to create an exciting and unique design.

  6. Once you have stuck all the mirror pieces, let it dry for a few hours.

  7. After the glue has dried completely, mix some chalk powder and Fevicol MR or craft glue in a bowl to form a paste.

  8. Using a stencil or a freehand approach, apply the chalk powder paste on the gaps between the mirror pieces. This will create a textured look and add depth to the design.

  9. After applying the paste, let it dry for a few minutes.

  10. Now it's time to add color to your design. Take the acrylic colors and paint the mirror pieces in your desired colors. You can use multiple colors to create a vibrant and colorful design.

  11. After painting, let it dry for a few hours.

  12. Finally, apply a layer of varnish to protect the design from dust and scratches. This will also give the design a glossy finish.

Your Lippan art is now ready! You can hang it on your wall or place it on a stand to add a touch of elegance and beauty to your living space.
