Frequently Asked Questions

What does black gesso do?
It primes and seals a surface with a black base that paint grips well.

How is black gesso different from the clear gesso?
Both come in 100ml jars. Black gives a dark base that makes light and metallic colours stand out; clear dries clear so the surface shows through.

Can I use it under oil paint?
Gesso is used under both acrylic and oil painting. Let it dry fully first.

Gesso or texture paste, which do I need?
Gesso is brushed on thin to prime and seal. Texture paste is thick and builds raised relief. Pick gesso to prepare a surface and texture paste for 3D effects.
