About This Product 💥
Key feature
Gouache is an opaque water based paint that dries to a flat, matte finish, which is why illustrators and design students like it. Camel Artist Gouache Colours give you 12 shades in 9ml tubes, enough to learn layering and flat colour work on paper and board.

Perfect for
- Illustration and book art
- Design and poster style artwork
- Flat colour and graphic painting
- Art school assignments
Compatibility
Works with: watercolour paper, drawing paper, card and illustration board.
Pairs well with: soft round brushes, a mixing palette and heavy paper.
Not suitable for: canvas that will be varnished like an acrylic; gouache stays water soluble after drying.
How to Use
- Squeeze a small amount and add a few drops of water for a creamy mix.
- Paint flat layers and let each dry before the next.
- For corrections, paint a light layer over a dry dark one.
- Clean brushes in water.
Before You Buy
- No brush is included in this 12 shade set; the 24 shade set comes with 2 brushes.
- Dry gouache softens again with water, so keep finished work away from damp.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many shades does the Camel 12 shade gouache set have?
12 shades in 9ml tubes, from 236 Lemon Yellow to 423 White.
How is this different from the Camel 24 shade gouache set?
This set has 12 shades and no brush. The 24 shade set has twice the colours and 2 artist brushes, in the same 9ml tubes.
Can I paint gouache over a dry layer?
Yes. Its opacity lets you cover darker layers, but brush lightly so the layer below does not lift.
Gouache or poster colour: which should I pick?
Both are opaque and water based. Artist gouache has finer pigment and a smoother matte finish for illustration, while poster colour is the everyday school paint. Pick gouache for finished artwork and poster colour for charts and practice.
