Compatibility

Works with: clay modelling tools, rolling pins, silicone moulds, cutters, wire armatures, and MDF or canvas bases.

Pairs well with: acrylic paints, varnish, craft glue and armature wire.

Not suitable for: oven or kiln firing, holding water or food, or outdoor use unless sealed.

How to Use

1. Knead a piece until smooth, keeping the rest sealed in the pack.
2. Shape over a foil or wire armature for anything thicker than a thumb.
3. Join parts with a dab of water and smooth the seams.
4. Leave it to dry slowly out of direct sun, then paint with acrylics and seal with varnish.

Before You Buy

• It shrinks a little as it dries. Build thick pieces round a wire or foil armature so the outside does not dry faster than the inside and crack.
• Reseal the pack straight after use; clay that dries out in the packet cannot be brought back.
• Dried pieces are not waterproof. Seal with varnish, and we state no food grade rating for this clay, so keep it away from food.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much clay is in the pack and does it need baking?
The pack holds 500g, and it needs no baking. A thin piece dries in about 24 hours and a thick one takes several days.

How is this different from the other CEC clays?
This is the 500g white clay for painted work. CEC Homespun is a 600g terracotta clay, and CEC Woody is a 550g wood toned clay that carves once dry.

Should I pick air dry clay or polymer clay?
Air dry clay hardens in the air with no oven, so it suits large figures, idols and classroom work. Polymer clay has to be baked in a home oven, and suits small jewellery and charms that need to be tough. Pick air dry clay if you have no oven or want bigger pieces.
