Build a bold black and white clock from your own board with this complete movement kit. Inside is a quartz clock movement with an 18mm shaft, black spade hands (hour, minute and second), 12 black bar hour markers and a metal hanger hook. The 18mm shaft is long enough for thicker boards and resin faces, as long as it passes through the face and still leaves thread for the nut.

Compatibility

Works with: clock faces, MDF boards and resin dials with a drilled or cast centre hole, where the board is thinner than the 18mm shaft.

Pairs well with: mdf clock bases, resin clock moulds and a strong craft glue to fix the markers.

Not suitable for: boards so thick that the shaft cannot pass through and leave thread for the nut. The CMSC11 kit with a 12mm shaft is the better pick for thinner boards.

How to Use

1. Measure your board thickness and check that the 18mm shaft will pass through it with a few threads to spare.
2. Drill or cast a centre hole just wide enough for the shaft.
3. Slide the round end of the metal hanger onto the shaft at the back of the board, with the hook pointing up towards 12.
4. Push the shaft through from the back, then fit the washer and nut on the front and tighten gently by hand.
5. Press on the hour hand, then the minute hand, then the second hand, with all three pointing at 12.
6. Fix the 12 bar markers around the face, insert one AA battery and set the time.

How thick can my board be for the 18mm shaft?
The shaft has to pass right through the board and still show a few threads for the nut. Measure your board before you start; if the shaft does not clear it with thread to spare, the board is too thick for this kit.

How is this kit different from CMSC11?
This kit has an 18mm shaft for thicker boards and resin faces and black spade hands. CMSC11 has a 12mm shaft for thinner boards and loop hands in the same colour.

Will the black markers show on a dark board?
They show best on light faces such as white, cream, pastel or natural wood. For a dark board, the gold kit CMSC12 gives more contrast.
