Padico Wood Formo is a Japanese air dry clay made with wood pulp, so a finished piece dries to a wood like grain you can carve, sand and stain. This 500g pack in brown needs no oven or kiln: shape it, leave it to dry, then paint or varnish it.

Compatibility

Not suitable for: Oven or kiln firing, holding water, or outdoor use unless sealed.

How to Use

1. Knead a portion until smooth and keep the rest sealed in the pack.
2. Build thick shapes over a foil or wire armature.
3. Leave the piece to dry slowly away from direct sun, about a day for thin pieces and several days for thick ones.
4. Sand, carve or stain once fully dry, then seal with varnish.

Before You Buy

• The wood pulp gives a grainy surface rather than a smooth one. That is the character of this clay, not a fault.
• Air dry clay shrinks a little as it dries. Build thick pieces over a foil or wire armature so the outside does not dry faster than the inside and crack.
• Reseal the pack as soon as you finish. Clay that dries out in the packet cannot be brought back.
• Dried pieces are not waterproof. Seal with varnish if a piece will be handled, and we state no food grade rating for this clay, so keep it to decorative work.
