Texture paste is what turns a flat canvas into something you can feel. This is a thick white artist paste that holds its peaks, spreads through a stencil to leave a raised motif, and dries hard so you can paint straight over it. The 700g tub is the working size rather than a sample pot.

Compatibility

Works with: canvas, MDF, wood, card, paper, primed walls and stencils, and acrylic paint or colour mixed straight into the paste.

Not suitable for: flexible surfaces such as fabric, which crack the dried paste, and for outdoor use unless the piece is sealed.

How to Use

1. Tape the stencil down flat so paste cannot creep under the edges.
2. Load a palette knife and draw it across in one pass, leaving the paste level with the stencil.
3. Lift the stencil straight up, not sideways, and wash it before the paste sets.
4. Leave the piece flat to dry. A thin layer firms in a few hours and a deep peak needs longer.
5. Paint over it once it is fully dry, or tint the paste with acrylic before you apply it.

Before You Buy

• Thick applications take much longer to dry than thin ones. We state no fixed drying time, so judge it by touch.
• Wash tools and stencils straight away. Dried paste does not come off a stencil cleanly.
• Keep the tub sealed. A skin forms on the surface once air gets to it.

What surfaces does texture paste work on?
